Sgt. Gary Lewis Pope was born September 24, 1960, to the late Willie Lee and Annie Bell Pope. Sgt Gary Pope attended Woodbury High School and graduated with the Class of 1978. Upon graduation, he joined the Army where he advanced in rank to E5 and served faithfully for 17 years. After the military, he held different roles most recently with Kia Corporations of America until his health began to decline. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church (Alvaton, Ga). He later moved his membership to White Oak Grove Baptist Church (Senoia, Ga) where he was ordained as a deacon. In 1985, he married Brenda Amy Pope and to their union, one daughter was born. He leaves to cherish his memories: Tanesha (Alex), Mario (Carletta), Gary, and Demarkis. Gary adored his two grandchildren Madison and Alexandria. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Sabrina Pope, Melinda Pope, Olin Poindexter, and Richard Trice. He leaves to mourn his passing to his siblings: Joe Henry (Charlise)Pope, Johnny (Marie) Pope, Lawrence Pope, Lennis Pope, James Stanley (Linda) Pope, Susie (Henry) Mack, Wendy Pope, Willie Lee (Jim) Pope, Willie (Jack) (Lisa ) Pope, Terri ( Antavia) Gates, Angley Pope, Pamela Pope, and Lisa (Michael Spear). In addition, he has a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, cousins, and friends whose lives were forever touched because of him. Although his earthly body has transitioned from this place, his legacy of selfless service will continue to live on in the hearts of many. Gary Lewis Pope, 61, of Greenville, GA, passed on Thursday, May 19th, 2022 at WellStar LaGrange Hospice surrounded by his family and loved ones. Viewing will take place Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 5-8 PM at Saint Smyrna Baptist Church- 68 Heery Rd. Newnan, GA 30263. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2022, 1:00 PM at Saint Smyrna Baptist Church- 68 Heery Rd. Newnan, GA 30263. Interment will take place at Shiloh Baptist Church- 4374 Alvaton Rd.
