On Saturday, April 22, 1939, a life was given as life was being transitioned as Helen’s mom sacrificed her life during the process of childbirth. She never got the chance to enjoy or celebrate the bundle of joy she had just birthed. Our beloved Helen Louise Roberts Bridges was born to the late Alphonse Roberts Sr. and Helen Louise Brown in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was reared by her father and grandmother. She was educated in the Tangipahoa Parish School System, Independence, Louisiana, and graduated from Nursing School. She worked in the Nursing Field for many years in Louisiana and Illinois prior to her retirement. She then decided to explore employment as a Private Investigator, until her health forced another retirement. Helen exchanged wedding vows with Earnest Vaughn and resided in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Georgia. She was blessed with one child, Barbara Yvette Cook Williams, who brought her so much joy and she embraced with much love. Helen went to her eternal home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, after eight decades of receiving and providing love, care and guidance to family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and husband, George Bridges. She was also preceded by: Brothers ~ Alphonse Jr. Shelton and Edward Roberts and Sister: Lovie D. Neely. Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband ~ Earnest Vaughn, her daughter ~ Barbara Williams, one chosen daughter ~ Renee Green, four grandchildren ~ Kenya (Dennis) Ware, Jaime Williams Jr., Kanisha (Robert) Young, Kyisha Williams, four chosen grandchildren ~ Asha Roberts, Ebony Williams, Quentin Williams, and Antwaan Williams, four adopted grandchildren ~ Kyisha Thomas, Charlise McBounds, Tiffany McElroy and Preston Chester, twenty-two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two sisters ~ Carlene (Randolph) Washington and Bobbie Jean Smith. A host of nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, other relatives and friends. A funeral service celebrating her life will take place Saturday, November 6, 2021, 12 PM, at Cook Brothers Funeral Directors - 268 NW Broad Street, Fairburn, GA 30213. Visitation will be held in the chapel one hour prior to the service. All family members, friends, and well-wishers are required to wear face masks and follow CDC social distancing guidelines to attend all services.
